Buddy Cooper
Finds a Way
by Neil O'Boyle Connelly
Book Review by Amy Coffin
Buddy Cooper is a professional loser. He’s embraced many personas but never won a match on the Carolina wrestling circuit. Buddy hasn’t had much success in his private life either. He reflects on his failed marriage to Alix from the confines of his run-down apartment.

An unusual set of circumstances develops in the midst of Buddy’s perpetual retrospection. A madman/crazed fan terrorizes a live wresting match. Buddy takes one for the team, literally. He sees this incident as a chance to gain sympathy and win back his ex-wife.

Buddy Cooper Finds a Way details the aging wrestler’s ill-conceived plan and it’s surrounding ripple effects. Exploitation and opportunity are two main themes in this twisted tale.

Author Neil Connelly has a delightfully dark sense of humor. His characters are strange. Their experiences are definitely unique in the fiction world.

Not all of the quirky elements flow together clearly or make sense, but they are accepted as part of this endearing character’s daily life. Buddy Cooper Finds a Way is an odd treasure. Expect the unexpected. Accept the unacceptable. Find humor in the normal and abnormal and you will find a way to enjoy Neil Connelly’s debut novel.
