When the Messenger is Hot is a compilation of sixteen stories. Each brief tale is centered on a spunky female character. Many of the women share common characteristics and experiences. They are living single in big cities. Many mourn the loss of their mothers, or ex-boyfriends, or their earlier years.

"Something Shiny" tells the tale of a woman who's life is being made into a movie. She must contend with the big-name actress who is playing her part and wants to study her in-depth.

"Year-at-a-Glance" is a heartfelt journal of a mother's death, a daughter's loss, and the attempt to move forward with life.

An amusing story titled "The Daves" examines a dating world where all men seem to be named Dave.

Elizabeth Crane is a talented writer who successfully captures the life's little complexities. Female leads in When the Messenger is Hot are funny and sad, wise and naïve, complex and habitual.

This is a quick yet highly entertaining read. Take it on vacation and pass it amongst your girlfriends. They'll thank you for it.
